World Milk Day - The Big Slurp
Today Wednesday 23rd September it is World Milk Day. All our school gathered together with our dairy cow masks and drank our school milk as 1 big group!

Level 3 NWS Speech Competition
Fatini Jack did a great job in the Level 3 Speech Competition. His speech was about his favourite actor Jackie Chan...The calibre of speeches was very high!!!!
Level 2 NWS Speech competition

Farm trip to Mags
We had a fantabulous trip to the Mags farm. We were able to milk the cow by hand..feed the pigs, cows and lambs. Mr Palmer the farmer was able to show us how to shear a sheep. We were able to see some new baby piglets that were only 5 days old...It was a great educational trip..

ITM rugby launch
Today we have a player from each province in the 1st divison here at school for the ITM launch. This morning they visited each class and delivered the school milk. Matua Jarrod supports the mighty Northland Taniwha. Here is photo with 3 of the players.(sorry a bit blurry)

NWS ART EXHIBITION
ROOM 16s theme for the NWS art exhibition was Matariki. We had some great help from Whaea Char and her print press. Our chosen artist was Tracey Tawhiao one of her good friends. We used the polystyrene meat trays as the stencil and carved the image with kebab sticks.
Our tamariki efforts are awesome!!! So proud of them..Big thanks to Whaea Tania and Trina for all their mahi tautoko....

Ra Matariki ki NWS
A beautiful morning with clear skies at Orakei seeing the Matariki cluster for the first time as a kura. Some great mahi by our kaumatua Papa Ross and kuia Nanny Kahu.
Then back to kura for the pohiri to welcome Richmond Rd and Kowhai.
A tasty big breakfast was prepared by all our whanau parents led by Matua Henry and Whaea Kahu.
The students were broken up into 4 groups for some papamahi workshops...kite making..waka tangata..korowai and matariki wananga...
A great day for all whanau and students.

MATARIKI Kiwicare visit
This morning we got picked up by 2 Kiwicare vans and visited the CHILDCARE CENTRE on Wolverton St.
It is Matariki and we did some waiata and taught them some of the kaupapa we know about Matariki. It was great to see all the tamariki nohinohi. It was especially awesome for TK and Tarati as their little brother Te Kakekai goes to Kiwicare.

OLYMPIC ROWER VISITS NWS
Today we had Olympic Gold medal winning rower Joseph Sullivan visit our kura and tell us about his journey to success. He told us how he perservered when people said he was too small and couldnt do it. We watched his race too when they won the final. Everyone was cheering for them!. We even got to touch his medal and it was so heavy!!
POLICE DOG HANDLER TEAM VISIT
We had an awesome visit from the Dog handler team after lunch. Justin and Hamish brought their amazing dogs Axle and Ice. They showed us how they track people using their sense of smell and also how they find and chase people. Hamish put on a arm shield and Ice chased after him like he was a criminal. He bit his arm so hard!. It was so exciting to watch! Stefan got chosen to act like a dog..it was so funny!
NZ FIRE SERVICE VISIT
Our local fire station at Avondale came to visit us for Health week. They told us about their job and how they help people in the community. The junior classes got to try on the fire safety clothing and go inside the firetruck. It was so interesting. KA WANI KE!!!

POLICE EAGLE HELICOPTER VISIT TO NWS
Today the Police Eagle Helicopter visited our school. It was so awesome watching it hover and land on our back field. The wind was so strong from the helicopter that it blew us backwards! We were able to go right up close and even ask the crew some questions. We stayed and watched it fly away too. WHAT A GREAT START TO THE DAY!!

Western Zone Rugby League tournament
On Wednesday 21st May the Under 45kg team went to Kelston Boys High School to try defend the Western Zone title we won in 2014.
We won all three of our pool games vs Waterview, Konini and Titirangi then beat Rosebank in the quarter final. We played St Leonards in the semi final and lost 2-3. However we missed Zyroam one of our best players because he got injured in the quarter final. St Leonards won the final vs New Lynn. We played Ranui in the 3rd 4th playoff and won so of 12 teams we came 3rd! WELL DONE BOYS! A BIG THANK YOU TO MIKE STRANG FOR COACHING THE TEAM. His training before the day made a huge difference.!!!
Thanks to Matua and a parent for shouting some McDonalds afterwards to celebrate...Go NWS LEAGUE BOYS!!!

This Friday night at the Vodafone Events centre at Manukau some of the best high school and adult ropu will perform in a concert called 'WAIATA'.....If u missed Te Matatini this is a great opportunity to see some fantastic exponents of the art of KAPAHAKA...including Hoani Waititi..Waiorea...Te Waka Huia...Te Whanau a Apanui and others

St Johns Ambulance first aid training
As part of Health week we are learning all about Emergency services in our community. We will be having visits from the Police, Fire service and St Johns Ambulance service. We had a first aid session with Olivia from St Johns Ambulance. It was awesome learning CPR. We all had a practise on the cpr dummies. TAU KE!
